On this particular visit to the Minnehaha Creek...Dietrich immediately fell in screaming (not because of being wet but because his shirt got dirty and felt weird -- I know my kid and his screams) and had to remove his shirt. Awhile later, Thea Belle fell in face first and started floating down the creek. I rushed in and fished her out. She had to strip down to her diaper. Then Dietrich sunk into a mud sinkhole and got himself out but lost his brand-new Croc. He came up screaming -- I thought he'd cut his foot with glass or been bit by a rare malevolent creek creature. But it was a lost new shoe (remember the rock-kicking shoe tragedy, Mom?). Well, we searched and searched with hands and sticks in the muddy hole and then went looking down the creek for a quarter mile wondering how it had escaped. After 15 minutes, I tried another stick-digging reconnaissance and - success! A mud-filled shoe was rescued! The afternoon ended with no other mishaps...and lots of sunshine and laughter and climbing and water kicking. Not exactly relaxing (I find no outing with the kids to merit that description...), but satisfying and right. |

Great pics. Love the one of Lincoln & Thea. Remind me to tell your kids about the time I lost my shoe to the mud. It was traumatic. Or maybe not. We don't want a repeat of "Vacuum Man." :)
dude this is awesome. when Ellie is ready to go trompsing through the mud we will definitely need to have a mud-play date. :)
The pictures are amazing and lovely and without your description, I would have assumed you all had a lovely, no-problem time!
