Russian Bears

Yesterday we went to the Minneapolis Zoo with Ranjana, Oliver and their babysitter Heather. A new Russian coast exhibit opened up last Saturday. There's a "splash pad" -- water fountain, play area and a giant cool sandbox and pretty mosiac floors and wonderful landscaping throughout the new area. Oh, and a cave to walk through, rocks to climb on, and new animals. I was glad we went though be doing so both boys had their afternoon naps erased (They slept in the car on the way back and while I ran two errands that didn't require me getting out of the car -- video store/dry cleaners -- but nothing else all day until bedtime around 8:30 pm. Sigh.) Still, I say it was worth it.

Even the drain covers were beautiful.

First we saw the dolphin show. I didn'tget too many pictures because I was nursing Dietrich most of the time. Atticus loves this though -- clapping and laughing and faces of awe were in abundance (-:

One of the bears who was swimming through this water -- it was just like in those National Geographic specials -- They swim so well and are so big -- it doesn't look real. This area was just flooded with people so I didn't get very good pictures of the cave this viewing area was in nor of the small cave behind it for the kids to explore.

Giant sand play area with "bones" and archeological dig "equipment".

Dietrich happily relaxing in the stroller while the big kids play in the sand

We visited the older tiger exhibit after a picnic lunch (where Atticus ate a bunch of pineapple and string chees -- hurray!!) The older parts of the zoo seemed deserted -- it was wonderful after the crowds.
